A standard used by everyone. Global standards are few and far between, but there are some. The Internet Protocol (IP) is one. USB is another. Technically, a standard should be the way everything is done. However, because there are so many formats, protocols and programming interfaces (API) in the tech world, the ongoing joke is that "standards are great; there are so many to choose from." See
